Pakistan’s landscape includes mountains such as the Himalayas and Karakoram, vast plains, deserts, and extensive river systems, all shaped by complex geological and environmental processes. The field covers disciplines like geology, seismology, hydrology, geomorphology, and environmental science, which are crucial for understanding natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and droughts that frequently impact the region. Earth Sciences also support Pakistan’s economy through the exploration and management of mineral resources, oil and gas, and water resources, while promoting sustainable development and disaster mitigation. Overall, the study of Earth Sciences in Pakistan provides vital knowledge for managing natural resources responsibly, protecting the environment, and enhancing resilience to natural hazards.

Aims & Scope
Earth Sciences Pakistan (ESP) is an international, open-access, biannual e-journal that publishes peer-reviewed research and review papers across all domains of Earth and Environmental Sciences, focusing on the interactions between the solid Earth, water, air, and living organisms, as well as the dynamic, interdependent relationships that drive environmental change over different timescales. Drawing on geology, biology, physics, and chemistry, ESP seeks to understand past and present environmental processes to make reliable, science-based predictions about the future. The journal is highly interdisciplinary and welcomes new data, ideas, and conceptual advances, with manuscripts expected to meet at least one of the following criteria: provide statistically significant and relevant data from underrepresented regions or large datasets that advance knowledge in well-studied areas; present model studies that explain observations reported in the manuscript or the literature; or offer novel analyses and inferences that contribute to advancing current knowledge.
The scope of Earth Sciences Pakistan includes, but is not limited to, the following fields and research areas:
- Environmental sciences, environmental engineering, environmental pollution, environmental biotechnology, and toxicology
- Volcanology, tectonics, neotectonics, geomorphology, geochemistry, geothermal energy, glaciology, ore geology, and environmental geology
- Geological engineering and geotechnics
- Geo-hazards such as tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, debris flows, and subsidence
- Mining engineering, rock/soil improvement, and resource development
- Petroleum engineering and blasting engineering
- Applications of remote sensing (RS), geographical information systems (GIS), and global positioning systems (GPS) in earth sciences and engineering
- Meteorology and atmospheric sciences
- Wastewater treatment, water resources engineering, groundwater studies, and contaminant treatment
- Offshore and marine geotechnics
- Fertilizer pollution control, agrochemicals, industrial waste management, urban landfills, and traffic congestion
